But I am sceptical that having a respawning dragon. Sure it would be fun for a week or two - people will kill it a few times then get bored of doing the same thing over and over... at least with a dragon that dies the world becomes a usable world rather than a permanent battle dome that nobody uses because they've already killed the dragon 5 times
antea wrote:[Reveal] Spoiler:- re: having ender chests at spawn... that came about because long term players had a monopoly on special resources simply through time spent playing... making them invincible... it levelled the field for new players by allowing them some fallback... as did other resources at spawn. it also gave new players a leg up in surviving and not storming off angry after being killed by pop or dmac on their first day and losing everything. my primary motive is getting more people playing regularly and cutting down rage quits - this doesnt happen when people just keep dying because the same few hardcore superstars are dominating. other servers have dead hardcore maps for this reason and when I first started it was a similar problem here
antea wrote:.[Reveal] Spoiler:- if you want to level the playing field... remove enderchests or put a spatial limit on exploration... of course the majority of regulars on hc arent there to raid so this would go against their reason for playing - they are there to build in the more relaxed environment that has grown with hc, as well as breaking and fighting... so this has to balance with their requirements.
All that aside... a new map is probably warranted with 1.7 simply for the number of biome changes..
