When the server updates to 1.7.7/8 will we be able to use 1.7.4? I have a custom version with some mods on it I would like to use other wise when the time comes I will just use vanilla 1.7.8 or what ever we're up to now

No, you will not be able to use the old client
You will need to wait for the authors of your mods to update them, and then re-install them

The only mod i use atm is Optifine, I've been trying to get Zan's minimap but had no luck.

Any idea when the servers will be updated? My minecraft automatically did so after re-downloading a while back, so i can't get on until 1.7.9 is running

Just make a new profile on 1.7.5

Just make a new profile on 1.7.5

Or you can edit your current profile like so
